1. "Make an altar out of acacia wood for burning incense.
|
1. And thou shalt make H6213 an altar H4196 to burn H4729 incense H7004 upon: of shittim H7848 wood H6086 shalt thou make H6213 it.
|
|
2. Make it square -- eighteen inches long and eighteen inches wide -- and make it thirty-six inches high. The corners that stick out like horns must be one piece with the altar.
|
2. A cubit H520 shall be the length H753 thereof , and a cubit H520 the breadth H7341 thereof; foursquare H7251 shall it be H1961 : and two cubits H520 shall be the height H6967 thereof : the horns H7161 thereof shall be of H4480 the same.
|
|
3. Cover its top, its sides, and its corners with pure gold, and put a gold strip all around the altar.
|
3. And thou shalt overlay H6823 it with pure H2889 gold H2091 , H853 the top H1406 thereof , and the sides H7023 thereof round about H5439 , and the horns H7161 thereof ; and thou shalt make H6213 unto it a crown H2213 of gold H2091 round about H5439 .

|
4. Make two gold rings beneath the gold strip on opposite sides of the altar, and slide poles through them to carry the altar.
|
4. And two H8147 golden H2091 rings H2885 shalt thou make H6213 to it under H4480 H8478 the crown H2213 of it, by H5921 the two H8147 corners H6763 thereof, upon H5921 the two H8147 sides H6654 of it shalt thou make H6213 it ; and they shall be H1961 for places H1004 for the staves H905 to bear H5375 it withal H1992 .

5. Make the poles from acacia wood and cover them with gold.
|
5. And thou shalt make H6213 H853 the staves H905 of shittim H7848 wood H6086 , and overlay H6823 them with gold H2091 .
|
|
6. Put the altar of incense in front of the curtain that is near the Ark of the Agreement, in front of the lid that covers that Ark. There I will meet with you.
|
6. And thou shalt put H5414 it before H6440 the veil H6532 that H834 is by H5921 the ark H727 of the testimony H5715 , before H6440 the mercy seat H3727 that H834 is over H5921 the testimony H5715 , where H834 H8033 I will meet H3259 with thee.

|
7. "Aaron must burn sweet-smelling incense on the altar every morning when he comes to take care of the oil lamps.
|
7. And Aaron H175 shall burn H6999 thereon H5921 sweet H5561 incense H7004 every morning H1242 H1242 : when he dresseth H3190 H853 the lamps H5216 , he shall burn incense H6999 upon it.
|
|
8. He must burn incense again in the evening when he lights the lamps, so incense will burn before the Lord every day from now on.
|
8. And when Aaron H175 lighteth H5927 H853 the lamps H5216 at H996 even H6153 , he shall burn incense H6999 upon it , a perpetual H8548 incense H7004 before H6440 the LORD H3068 throughout your generations H1755 .
|
|
9. Do not use this altar for offering any other incense, or burnt offering, or any kind of grain offering, or drink offering.
|
9. Ye shall offer H5927 no H3808 strange H2114 incense H7004 thereon H5921 , nor burnt sacrifice H5930 , nor meat offering H4503 ; neither H3808 shall ye pour H5258 drink offering H5262 thereon H5921 .
|
|
10. Once a year Aaron must make the altar ready for service to God by putting blood on its corners -- the blood of the animal offered to remove sins. He is to do this once a year from now on. This altar belongs completely to the Lord's service."
|
10. And Aaron H175 shall make an atonement H3722 upon H5921 the horns H7161 of it once H259 in a year H8141 with the blood H4480 H1818 of the sin offering H2403 of atonements H3725 : once H259 in the year H8141 shall he make atonement H3722 upon H5921 it throughout your generations H1755 : it H1931 is most holy H6944 H6944 unto the LORD H3068 .

11. The Lord said to Moses,

11. And the LORD H3068 spoke H1696 unto H413 Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
|
|
12. "When you count the people of Israel, every person must buy back his life from the Lord so that no terrible things will happen to the people when you number them.
|
12. When H3588 thou takest H5375 H853 the sum H7218 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 after their number H6485 , then shall they give H5414 every man H376 a ransom H3724 for his soul H5315 unto the LORD H3068 , when thou numberest H6485 them ; that there be H1961 no H3808 plague H5063 among them , when thou numberest H6485 them.

13. Every person who is counted must pay one-fifth of an ounce of silver. (This is set by using one-half of the Holy Place measure, which weighs two-fifths of an ounce.) This amount is a gift to the Lord.
|
13. This H2088 they shall give H5414 , every one H3605 that passeth H5674 among H5921 them that are numbered H6485 , half H4276 a shekel H8255 after the shekel H8255 of the sanctuary H6944 : (a shekel H8255 is twenty H6242 gerahs H1626 :) a half H4276 shekel H8255 shall be the offering H8641 of the LORD H3068 .

14. Every person who is counted and is twenty years old or older must give this amount to the Lord.
|
14. Every one H3605 that passeth H5674 among H5921 them that are numbered H6485 , from twenty H6242 years H8141 old H4480 H1121 and above H4605 , shall give H5414 an offering H8641 unto the LORD H3068 .
|
|
15. A rich person must not give more than one-fifth of an ounce, and a poor person must not give less. You are paying this to the Lord to buy back your lives.
|
15. The rich H6223 shall not H3808 give more H7235 , and the poor H1800 shall not H3808 give less H4591 than half H4480 H4276 a shekel H8255 , when they give H5414 H853 an offering H8641 unto the LORD H3068 , to make an atonement H3722 for H5921 your souls H5315 .
|
|
16. Gather from the people of Israel this money paid to buy back their lives, and spend it on things for the service in the Meeting Tent. This payment will remind the Lord that the Israelites' lives have been bought back."
|
16. And thou shalt take H3947 H853 the atonement H3725 money H3701 of H4480 H854 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , and shalt appoint H5414 it for H5921 the service H5656 of the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 ; that it may be H1961 a memorial H2146 unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478 before H6440 the LORD H3068 , to make an atonement H3722 for H5921 your souls H5315 .

17. The Lord said to Moses,
|
17. And the LORD H3068 spoke H1696 unto H413 Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
|
|
18. "Make a bronze bowl, on a bronze stand, for washing. Put the bowl and stand between the Meeting Tent and the altar, and put water in the bowl.
|
18. Thou shalt also make H6213 a laver H3595 of brass H5178 , and his foot H3653 also of brass H5178 , to wash H7364 withal : and thou shalt put H5414 it between H996 the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 and the altar H4196 , and thou shalt put H5414 water H4325 therein H8033 .

19. Aaron and his sons must wash their hands and feet with the water from this bowl.
|
19. For Aaron H175 and his sons H1121 shall wash H7364 H853 their hands H3027 and their feet H7272 thereat H4480 :
|
|
20. Each time they enter the Meeting Tent they must wash with water so they will not die. Whenever they approach the altar to serve as priests and offer a sacrifice to the Lord by fire,
|
20. When they go H935 into H413 the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 , they shall wash H7364 with water H4325 , that they die H4191 not H3808 ; or H176 when they come near H5066 to H413 the altar H4196 to minister H8334 , to burn H6999 offering made by fire H801 unto the LORD H3068 :

21. they must wash their hands and their feet so they will not die. This is a rule which Aaron and his descendants are to keep from now on."
|
21. So they shall wash H7364 their hands H3027 and their feet H7272 , that they die H4191 not H3808 : and it shall be H1961 a statute H2706 forever H5769 to them, even to him and to his seed H2233 throughout their generations H1755 .

22. Then the Lord said to Moses,
|
22. Moreover the LORD H3068 spoke H1696 unto H413 Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
|
|
23. "Take the finest spices: twelve pounds of liquid myrrh, half that amount (that is, six pounds) of sweet-smelling cinnamon, six pounds of sweet-smelling cane,
|
23. Take H3947 thou H859 also unto thee principal H7218 spices H1314 , of pure H1865 myrrh H4753 five H2568 hundred H3967 shekels , and of sweet H1314 cinnamon H7076 half so much H4276 , even two hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 shekels , and of sweet H1314 calamus H7070 two hundred H3967 and fifty H2572 shekels ,

24. and twelve pounds of cassia. Weigh all these by the Holy Place measure. Also take four quarts of olive oil,
|
24. And of cassia H6916 five H2568 hundred H3967 shekels , after the shekel H8255 of the sanctuary H6944 , and of oil H8081 olive H2132 a hin H1969 :
|
|
25. and mix all these things like a perfume to make a holy olive oil. This special oil must be put on people and things to make them ready for service to God.
|
25. And thou shalt make H6213 it an oil H8081 of holy H6944 ointment H4888 , an ointment H7545 compound H4842 after the art H4639 of the apothecary H7543 : it shall be H1961 a holy H6944 anointing H4888 oil H8081 .

|
26. Put this oil on the Meeting Tent and the Ark of the Agreement,
|
26. And thou shalt anoint H4886 H853 the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 therewith , and the ark H727 of the testimony H5715 ,
|
|
27. on the table and all its dishes, on the lampstand and all its tools, and on the incense altar.
|
27. And the table H7979 and all H3605 his vessels H3627 , and the candlestick H4501 and his vessels H3627 , and the altar H4196 of incense H7004 ,
|
|
28. Also, put the oil on the altar for burnt offerings and on all its tools, as well as on the bowl and the stand under the bowl.
|
28. And the altar H4196 of burnt offering H5930 with all H3605 his vessels H3627 , and the laver H3595 and his foot H3653 .
|
|
29. You will prepare all these things for service to God, and they will be very holy. Anything that touches these things must be holy.
|
29. And thou shalt sanctify H6942 them , that they may be H1961 most holy H6944 H6944 : whatsoever H3605 toucheth H5060 them shall be holy H6942 .
|
|
30. "Put the oil on Aaron and his sons to give them for service to me, that they may serve me as priests.
|
30. And thou shalt anoint H4886 Aaron H175 and his sons H1121 , and consecrate H6942 them , that they may minister unto me in the priest's office H3547 .
|
|
31. Tell the Israelites, 'This is to be my holy olive oil from now on. It is to be put on people and things to make them ready for service to God.
|
31. And thou shalt speak H1696 unto H413 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , saying H559 , This H2088 shall be H1961 a holy H6944 anointing H4888 oil H8081 unto me throughout your generations H1755 .
|
|
32. Do not pour it on the bodies of ordinary people, and do not make perfume the same way you make this oil. It is holy, and you must treat it as holy.
|
32. Upon H5921 man H120 's flesh H1320 shall it not H3808 be poured H3251 , neither H3808 shall ye make H6213 any other like it H3644 , after the composition H4971 of it: it H1931 is holy H6944 , and it shall be H1961 holy H6944 unto you.
|
|
33. If anyone makes perfume like it or puts it on someone who is not a priest, that person must be cut off from his people.'" Incense
|
33. Whosoever H376 H834 compoundeth H7543 any like it H3644 , or whosoever H834 putteth H5414 any of H4480 it upon H5921 a stranger H2114 , shall even be cut off H3772 from his people H4480 H5971 .
|
|
34. Then the Lord said to Moses, "Take these sweet-smelling spices: resin, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense. Be sure that you have equal amounts of each.
|
34. And the LORD H3068 said H559 unto H413 Moses H4872 , Take H3947 unto thee sweet spices H5561 , stacte H5198 , and onycha H7827 , and galbanum H2464 ; these sweet spices H5561 with pure H2134 frankincense H3828 : of each H905 shall there be H1961 a like H905 weight :

35. Make incense as a person who makes perfume would do. Add salt to it to keep it pure and holy.
|
35. And thou shalt make H6213 it a perfume H7004 , a confection H7545 after the art H4639 of the apothecary H7543 , tempered together H4414 , pure H2889 and holy H6944 :
|
|
36. Beat some of the incense into a fine powder, and put it in front of the Ark of the Agreement in the Meeting Tent, where I will meet with you. You must use this incense powder only for its very special purpose.
|
36. And thou shalt beat H7833 some of H4480 it very small H1854 , and put H5414 of H4480 it before H6440 the testimony H5715 in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 , where H834 H8033 I will meet H3259 with thee : it shall be H1961 unto you most holy H6944 H6944 .

|
37. Do not make incense for yourselves the same way you make this incense. Treat it as holy to the Lord.
|
37. And as for the perfume H7004 which H834 thou shalt make H6213 , ye shall not H3808 make H6213 to yourselves according to the composition H4971 thereof : it shall be H1961 unto thee holy H6944 for the LORD H3068 .

38. Whoever makes incense like this to use as perfume must be cut off from his people."
|
38. Whosoever H376 H834 shall make H6213 like unto that H3644 , to smell H7306 thereto , shall even be cut off H3772 from his people H4480 H5971 .
