1 Samuel 10:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 Samuel took a jar of the special oil and poured the oil on Saul's head. Samuel kissed Saul and said, "The Lord has anointed you to be the leader over the people who belong to him. You will control the people. You will save them from the enemies that are all around them. He has anointed you to be ruler over his people. Here is a sign that will prove this is true:
2 After you leave me today, you will meet two men near Rachel's tomb on the border of Benjamin at Zelzah. The two men will say to you, 'Someone found the donkeys you were looking for. Your father stopped worrying about his donkeys. Now he is worrying about you. He is saying: What will I do about my son?'"
3 Samuel said, "Then you will go until you come to the large oak tree at Tabor. Three men will meet you there. They will be on their way to worship God at Bethel. One man will be carrying three young goats. The second man will be carrying three loaves of bread. And the third man will have a bottle of wine.
4 These three men will say hello to you. They will offer you two loaves of bread, and you will accept the two loaves.
5 Then you will go to Gibeath Elohim. There is a Philistine fort in that place. When you come to this town, a group of prophets will come out. These prophets will come down from the place for worship. They will be prophesying. They will be playing harps, tambourines, flutes, and lyres.
6 Then the Lord's Spirit will come on you with great power. You will be changed. You will be like a different man. You will begin to prophesy with these prophets.
7 After that happens, you can do whatever you choose to do, because God will be with you.
8 "Go to Gilgal before me. Then I will come there to you. And I will offer burnt offerings and fellowship offerings. But you must wait seven days. Then I will come and tell you what to do."
9 Just as Saul turned to leave Samuel, God turned Saul's life around. All these things happened that day.
10 When Saul and his servant came to Gibeath Elohim, Saul met a group of prophets. God's Spirit came on Saul with great power, and Saul prophesied with the prophets.
11 Some of the people who had known Saul before saw him prophesying with the prophets. So they asked each other, "What has happened to Kish's son? Is Saul also one the prophets?"
12 A man living in Gibeath Elohim said, "Yes, and it seems that he is their leader." That is why this became a famous saying: "Is Saul also one of the prophets?"
13 After Saul finished prophesying, he went to the place of worship.
14 Saul's uncle asked Saul and his servant, "Where have you been?" Saul said, "We were looking for the donkeys. When we couldn't find them, we went to see Samuel."
15 Saul's uncle said, "Please tell me, what did Samuel say to you?"
16 Saul answered, "Samuel told us the donkeys were already found." He did not tell his uncle everything. Saul did not tell him what Samuel said about the kingdom.
17 Samuel told all the Israelites to meet together with the Lord at Mizpah.
18 Samuel told the Israelites, "The Lord, the God of Israel says, 'I led Israel out of Egypt. I saved you from Egypt's control and from the other kingdoms that tried to hurt you.'
19 But today you have rejected your God. Your God saves you from all your troubles and problems. But you said, 'No, we want a king to rule us.' Now come, stand before the Lord in your family groups and tribes."
20 Samuel brought all the tribes of Israel near. Then Samuel began to choose the new king. First, the tribe of Benjamin was chosen.
21 Samuel told each family in the tribe of Benjamin to pass by. Matri's family was chosen. Then Samuel told each man in Matri's family to walk by. Saul son of Kish was chosen. But when the people looked for Saul, they could not find him.
22 Then they asked the Lord, "Has Saul come here yet?" The Lord said, "Saul is hiding behind the supplies."
23 The people ran and took Saul out from behind the supplies. Saul stood up among the people. He was a head taller than anyone else.
24 Samuel said to all the people, "See the man the Lord has chosen. There is no one like Saul among the people." Then the people shouted, "Long live the king!"
25 Samuel explained the rules of the kingdom to the people. He wrote the rules in a book and put the book before the Lord. Then Samuel told the people to go home.
26 Saul also went to his home in Gibeah. God touched the hearts of brave men who then began to follow Saul.
27 But some troublemakers said, "How can this man save us?" They said bad things about Saul and refused to bring gifts to him. But Saul said nothing. King Nahash of the Ammonites had been hurting the tribes of Gad and Reuben. Nahash poked out the right eye of each of the men and did not allow anyone to help them. He poked out the right eye of every Israelite man living in the area east of the Jordan River. But 7000 Israelite men ran away from the Ammonites and came to Jabesh Gilead.
1 Then Samuel H8050 took H3947 W-VQY3MS a vial H6378 of oil H8081 , and poured H3332 it upon H5921 PREP his head H7218 CMS-3MS , and kissed H5401 him , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , Is it not H3808 D-NPAR because H3588 CONJ the LORD H3068 EDS hath anointed H4886 thee to be captain H5057 over H5921 PREP his inheritance H5159 ?
2 When thou art departed H1980 from PREP me today H3117 D-AMS , then thou shalt find H4672 two H8147 ONUM men H376 NMP by H5973 PREP Rachel H7354 \'s sepulcher H6900 in the border H1366 of Benjamin H1144 at Zelzah H6766 ; and they will say H559 W-VQQ3MP unto H413 PREP-2MS thee , The asses H860 which H834 RPRO thou wentest H1980 to seek H1245 are found H4672 : and , lo H2009 IJEC , thy father H1 NMS hath left H5203 the care H1697 CMP of the asses H860 , and sorroweth H1672 for you , saying H559 L-VQFC , What H4100 IGAT shall I do H6213 for my son H1121 ?
3 Then shalt thou go on H2498 forward H1973 from thence H8033 M-ADV , and thou shalt come H935 W-VQQ2MS to H5704 PREP the plain H436 CMS of Tabor H8396 , and there H8033 shall meet H4672 thee three H7969 NFS men H376 going up H5927 to H413 PREP God H430 D-EDP to Bethel H1008 LFS , one H259 MMS carrying H5375 three H7969 NFS kids H1423 , and another H259 carrying H5375 three H7969 NFS loaves H3603 of bread H3899 NMS , and another H259 carrying H5375 a bottle H5035 of wine H3196 :
4 And they will salute H7592 thee , and give H5414 thee two H8147 ONUM loaves of bread H3899 NMS ; which thou shalt receive H3947 of their hands H3027 .
5 After that ADV thou shalt come H935 VQY2MS to the hill H1389 of God H430 D-EDP , where H834 RPRO is the garrison H5333 of the Philistines H6430 : and it shall come to pass H1961 W-VQI3MS , when thou art come H935 VQY2MS thither H8033 ADV to the city H5892 D-GFS , that thou shalt meet H6293 a company H2256 of prophets H5030 coming down H3381 from the high place H1116 with a psaltery H5035 , and a tabret H8596 , and a pipe H2485 , and a harp H3658 W-NMS , before H6440 them ; and they H1992 shall prophesy H5012 :
6 And the Spirit H7307 NFS of the LORD H3068 EDS will come H6743 upon H5921 PREP-2MS thee , and thou shalt prophesy H5012 with them H5973 PREP-3MP , and shalt be turned H2015 into another H312 man H376 L-NMS .
7 And let it be H1961 W-VQQ3MS , when H3588 CONJ these H428 D-DPRO-3MP signs H226 are come H935 unto thee , that thou do H6213 VQI2MS as occasion serve H834 RPRO thee ; for H3588 CONJ God H430 D-EDP is with H5973 PREP-2FS thee .
8 And thou shalt go down H3381 before H6440 L-CMP me to Gilgal H1537 ; and , behold H2009 IJEC , I H595 PPRO-1MS will come down H3381 unto H413 PREP-2MS thee , to offer H5927 burnt offerings H5930 CFP , and to sacrifice H2076 sacrifices H2077 of peace offerings H8002 : seven H7651 RMS days H3117 NMP shalt thou tarry H3176 , till H5704 PREP I come H935 to H413 PREP-2MS thee , and show H3045 thee what H834 RPRO thou shalt do H6213 VQY2MS .
9 And it was H1961 W-VQQ3MS so , that when he had turned H6437 his back H7926 to go H1980 L-VQFC from M-PREP Samuel H8050 , God H430 EDP gave H2015 him another H312 AMS heart H3820 NMS : and all H3605 NMS those H428 D-DPRO-3MP signs H226 came to pass H935 W-VQY3MP that H1931 day H3117 B-AMS .
10 And when they came H935 W-VQY3MP thither H8033 ADV to the hill H1389 , behold H2009 IJEC , a company H2256 of prophets H5030 met H7125 him ; and the Spirit H7307 NFS of God H430 EDP came H6743 upon H5921 PREP-3MS him , and he prophesied H5012 among H8432 B-CMS-3MP them .
11 And it came to pass H1961 W-VQY3MS , when all H3605 NMS that knew H3045 him formerly H865 saw H7200 W-VQY3MP that , behold H2009 IJEC , he prophesied H5012 among H5973 PREP the prophets H5030 , then the people H5971 said H559 W-VQY3MS one H376 NMS to H413 PREP another H7453 NMS-3MS , What H4100 IPRO is this H2088 PMS that is come H1961 VQQ3MS unto the son H1121 of Kish H7027 ? Is Saul H7586 also H1571 CONJ among the prophets H5030 ?
12 And one H376 NMS of the same place H8033 M-ADV answered H6030 W-VQY3MS and said H559 W-VQY3MS , But who H4310 W-IPRO is their father H1 CMS-3MP ? Therefore H5921 PREP it became H1961 VQQ3FS a proverb H4912 , Is Saul H7586 also H1571 CONJ among the prophets H5030 ?
13 And when he had made an end H3615 W-VPY3MS of prophesying H5012 , he came H935 W-VQY3MS to the high place H1116 .
14 And Saul H7586 \'s uncle H1730 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP-3MS him and to H413 PREP his servant H5288 , Whither H575 ADV went H1980 ye ? And he said H559 W-VQY3MS , To seek H1245 the asses H860 : and when we saw H7200 that H3588 CONJ they were no where H369 ADV , we came H935 to H413 PREP Samuel H8050 .
15 And Saul H7586 \'s uncle H1730 said H559 W-VQY3MS , Tell H5046 me , I pray thee H4994 IJEC , what H4100 IGAT Samuel H8050 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto you .
16 And Saul H7586 said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP his uncle H1730 , He told us plainly H5046 VHI2MS that H3588 CONJ the asses H860 were found H4672 . But of the matter H1697 CMS of the kingdom H4410 , whereof H834 RPRO Samuel H8050 spoke H559 W-VQY3MS , he told H5046 VHQ3MS him not H3808 ADV .
17 And Samuel H8050 called the people together H6817 unto H413 PREP the LORD H3068 EDS to Mizpeh H4709 ;
18 And said H559 W-VQY3MS unto H413 PREP the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , Thus H3541 saith H559 W-VQY3MS the LORD H3068 EDS God H430 CDP of Israel H3478 , I H595 PPRO-1MS brought up H5927 Israel H3478 out of Egypt H4714 , and delivered H5337 you out of the hand H3027 M-GFS of the Egyptians H4714 EFS , and out of the hand H3027 WM-GFS of all H3605 NMS kingdoms H4467 , and of them that oppressed H3905 you :
19 And ye H859 W-PPRO-2MP have this day H3117 D-AMS rejected H3988 your God H430 , who H834 RPRO himself H1931 PPRO-3MS saved H3467 you out of all H3605 M-CMS your adversities H7451 and your tribulations H6869 ; and ye have said H559 unto him , Nay , but H3588 CONJ set H7760 VQY2MS a king H4428 NMS over H5921 PREP-1MP us . Now H6258 W-ADV therefore present yourselves H3320 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS by your tribes H7626 , and by your thousands H505 .
20 And when Samuel H8050 had caused all H3605 NMS the tribes H7626 of Israel H3478 to come near H7126 , the tribe H7626 CMS of Benjamin H1144 was taken H3920 .
21 When he had caused the tribe H7626 CMS of Benjamin H1144 to come near H7126 by their families H4940 , the family H4940 of Matri H4309 was taken H3920 , and Saul H7586 the son H1121 of Kish H7027 was taken H3920 : and when they sought H1245 him , he could not H3808 W-NPAR be found H4672 .
22 Therefore they inquired H7592 of the LORD H3068 NAME-4MS further H5750 ADV , if the man H376 NMS should yet H5750 ADV come H935 thither H1988 . And the LORD H3068 EDS answered H559 W-VQY3MS , Behold H2009 IJEC , he H1931 PPRO-3MS hath hid himself H2244 among H413 PREP the stuff H3627 .
23 And they ran H7323 and fetched H3947 him thence H8033 M-ADV : and when he stood H3320 among H8432 B-NMS the people H5971 , he was higher H1361 than any H3605 M-CMS of the people H5971 from his shoulders H7926 and upward H4605 .
24 And Samuel H8050 said H559 W-VQY3MS to H413 PREP all H3605 NMS the people H5971 , See H7200 ye him whom H834 RPRO the LORD H3068 EDS hath chosen H977 , that H3588 CONJ there is none H369 NPAR like him H3644 PART-3MS among all H3605 NMS the people H5971 ? And all H3605 NMS the people H5971 shouted H7321 , and said H559 W-VQY3MS , God save H2421 the king H4428 .
25 Then Samuel H8050 told H1696 W-VPY3MS the people H5971 the manner H4941 CMS of the kingdom H4410 , and wrote H3789 it in a book H5612 BD-NMS , and laid it up H5117 before H6440 L-CMP the LORD H3068 EDS . And Samuel H8050 sent H7971 W-VPY3MS all H3605 NMS the people H5971 away , every man H376 NMS to his house H1004 .
26 And Saul H7586 also H1571 W-CONJ went H1980 VQQ3MS home H1004 L-CMS-3MS to Gibeah H1390 ; and there went H1980 W-VQY3MP with H5973 PREP-3MS him a band of men H2428 , whose H834 RPRO hearts H3820 God H430 EDP had touched H5060 .
27 But the children H1121 W-CMP of Belial H1100 said H559 VQQ3MP , How H4100 IPRO shall this H2088 DPRO man save H3467 us ? And they despised H959 him , and brought H935 him no H3808 W-NPAR presents H4503 NFS . But he held his peace H2790 .
