1. "You might be called as a witness and take an oath to tell the truth. If you saw something or knew something but did not tell it, you are guilty of doing wrong and must bear the responsibility for your guilt.
1. And if H3588 a soul H5315 sin H2398 , and hear H8085 the voice H6963 of swearing H423 , and is a witness H5707 , whether H176 he hath seen H7200 or H176 known H3045 of it ; if H518 he do not H3808 utter H5046 it , then he shall bear H5375 his iniquity H5771 .
2. "You might touch something unclean. It might be the dead body of any kind of animal. You might not know that you touched these things, but you will still become unclean and must pay a fine.
2. Or H176 if a soul H5315 touch H5060 any H3605 unclean H2931 thing H1697 , whether H176 it be a carcass H5038 of an unclean H2931 beast H2416 , or H176 a carcass H5038 of unclean H2931 cattle H929 , or H176 the carcass H5038 of unclean H2931 creeping things H8318 , and if it be hidden H5956 from H4480 him; he H1931 also shall be unclean H2931 , and guilty H816 .
3. "You might touch any of the many things that can make a person unclean. You might touch something unclean, but not know about it. When you learn that you have touched something unclean, you must pay a fine.
3. Or H176 if H3588 he touch H5060 the uncleanness H2932 of man H120 , whatsoever H3605 uncleanness H2932 it be that H834 a man shall be defiled H2930 withal , and it be hid H5956 from H4480 him ; when he H1931 knoweth H3045 of it , then he shall be guilty H816 .
4. "You might make a quick promise to do somethingit makes no difference if it is bad or good. People make many kinds of quick promises. You might make such a promise and forget it. When you remember your promise, you must pay a fine because you did not keep it.
4. Or H176 if H3588 a soul H5315 swear H7650 , pronouncing H981 with his lips H8193 to do evil H7489 , or H176 to do good H3190 , whatsoever H3605 H834 it be that a man H120 shall pronounce H981 with an oath H7621 , and it be hid H5956 from H4480 him ; when he H1931 knoweth H3045 of it , then he shall be guilty H816 in one H259 of these H4480 H428 .
5. If you are guilty of any of these things, you must confess whatever you did wrong.
5. And it shall be H1961 , when H3588 he shall be guilty H816 in one H259 of these H4480 H428 things , that he shall confess H3034 that H834 he hath sinned H2398 in H5921 that thing :
6. Then you must bring your guilt offering to the Lord for the sin you did. You must bring a female lamb or a female goat as a sin offering. The priest will do this to make you pure from your sin.
6. And he shall bring H935 H853 his trespass offering H817 unto the LORD H3068 for H5921 his sin H2403 which H834 he hath sinned H2398 , a female H5347 from H4480 the flock H6629 , a lamb H3776 or H176 a kid H8166 of the goats H5795 , for a sin offering H2403 ; and the priest H3548 shall make an atonement H3722 for H5921 him concerning his sin H4480 H2403 .
7. "If you cannot afford a lamb, you must bring two doves or two young pigeons to the Lord. These will be the guilt offering for your sin. One bird must be for a sin offering, and the other must be for a burnt offering.
7. And if H518 he be not H3808 able to bring H5060 H3027 H1767 a lamb H7716 , then he shall bring H935 H853 for his trespass H817 , which H834 he hath committed H2398 , two H8147 turtledoves H8449 , or H176 two H8147 young H1121 pigeons H3123 , unto the LORD H3068 ; one H259 for a sin offering H2403 , and the other H259 for a burnt offering H5930 .
8. Take them to the priest. First, the priest will offer one bird for the sin offering. The priest will pull the bird's head from its neck but he will not pull it off completely.
8. And he shall bring H935 them unto H413 the priest H3548 , who shall offer H7126 H853 that which H834 is for the sin offering H2403 first H7223 , and wring off H4454 H853 his head H7218 from H4480 H4136 his neck H6203 , but shall not H3808 divide it asunder H914 :
9. The priest will sprinkle the blood from the sin offering on the side of the altar. Then he will pour out the rest of the blood at the base of the altar. It is a sin offering.
9. And he shall sprinkle H5137 of the blood H4480 H1818 of the sin offering H2403 upon H5921 the side H7023 of the altar H4196 ; and the rest H7604 of the blood H1818 shall be wrung out H4680 at H413 the bottom H3247 of the altar H4196 : it H1931 is a sin offering H2403 .
10. Then he will offer the second bird according to the rules for a burnt offering. The priest will do this to make you pure from the sin you did, and God will forgive you.
10. And he shall offer H6213 the second H8145 for a burnt offering H5930 , according to the manner H4941 : and the priest H3548 shall make an atonement H3722 for H5921 him for his sin H4480 H2403 which H834 he hath sinned H2398 , and it shall be forgiven H5545 him.
11. "If you cannot afford two doves or two pigeons, you must bring 8 cups of fine flour as your sin offering. You must not put oil or frankincense on the flour because it is a sin offering.
11. But if H518 he be not H3808 able to bring H5381 H3027 two H8147 turtledoves H8449 , or H176 two H8147 young H1121 pigeons H3123 , then he that H834 sinned H2398 shall bring H935 H853 for his offering H7133 the tenth part H6224 of an ephah H374 of fine flour H5560 for a sin offering H2403 ; he shall put H7760 no H3808 oil H8081 upon H5921 it, neither H3808 shall he put H5414 any frankincense H3828 thereon H5921 : for H3588 it H1931 is a sin offering H2403 .
12. You must bring the flour to the priest. The priest will take a handful of the flour as the memorial offering and bring it to the altar as a gift to the Lord. It is a sin offering.
12. Then shall he bring H935 it to H413 the priest H3548 , and the priest H3548 shall take H7061 his handful H4393 H7062 of H4480 it, even H853 a memorial H234 thereof , and burn H6999 it on the altar H4196 , according to H5921 the offerings made by fire H801 unto the LORD H3068 : it H1931 is a sin offering H2403 .
13. The priest will do this to make you pure, and God will forgive you. The part that is left will belong to the priest, just as the regular grain offering."
13. And the priest H3548 shall make an atonement H3722 for H5921 him as touching H5921 his sin H2403 that H834 he hath sinned H2398 in one H4480 H259 of these H4480 H428 , and it shall be forgiven H5545 him : and the remnant shall be H1961 the priest H3548 's , as a meat offering H4503 .
14. The Lord gave this command to Moses {for the people}:
14. And the LORD H3068 spoke H1696 unto H413 Moses H4872 , saying H559 ,
15. "You might promise to give something to the Lord. You might sin against me without meaning to by not giving what you promised. If you do that, you must bring a ram that has nothing wrong with it (or the same amount in silver using the official measure ) as a guilt offering.
15. If H3588 a soul H5315 commit H4603 a trespass H4604 , and sin H2398 through ignorance H7684 , in H4480 the holy things H6944 of the LORD H3068 ; then he shall bring H935 H853 for his trespass H817 unto the LORD H3068 a ram H352 without blemish H8549 out of H4480 the flocks H6629 , with thy estimation H6187 by shekels H8255 of silver H3701 , after the shekel H8255 of the sanctuary H6944 , for a trespass offering H817 :
16. You must give what you promised and add one-fifth of that amount as a fine. Give it to the priest and he will use the ram to make you pure, and God will forgive you.
16. And he shall make amends H7999 for the harm that he hath done H834 H2398 in H4480 the holy thing H6944 , and shall add H3254 the fifth part H2549 thereto H5921 , and give H5414 it unto the priest H3548 : and the priest H3548 shall make an atonement H3722 for H5921 him with the ram H352 of the trespass offering H817 , and it shall be forgiven H5545 him.
17. "If you sin and break any of the commands that the Lord said must not be done, you are guilty. Even if you did not know about it, you are still responsible for your sin.
17. And if H518 a soul H5315 sin H2398 , and commit H6213 any H259 of these things H4480 H3605 which H834 are forbidden H3808 to be done H6213 by the commandments H4687 of the LORD H3068 ; though he knew H3045 it not H3808 , yet is he guilty H816 , and shall bear H5375 his iniquity H5771 .
18. You must bring a ram that has nothing wrong with it (or the same amount in silver) to the priest. The priest will offer the ram, and God will forgive you for the sin you did without knowing it.
18. And he shall bring H935 a ram H352 without blemish H8549 out of H4480 the flock H6629 , with thy estimation H6187 , for a trespass offering H817 , unto H413 the priest H3548 : and the priest H3548 shall make an atonement H3722 for H5921 him concerning H5921 his ignorance H7684 wherein H834 he erred H7683 and knew H3045 it not H3808 , and it shall be forgiven H5545 him.
19. You are guilty, and you must pay the guilt offering to the Lord."
19. It H1931 is a trespass offering H817 : he hath certainly trespassed H816 H816 against the LORD H3068 .
